The dental study was a part of the study “Molecular and genetic markers of the response to coronavirus infection and changes in the human microbiota and metabolome during the COVID-19 pandemic” (hereinafter referred to as the study on the effects of COVID-19). Data collection for the study was carried out from October 3 to November 10, 2022 at the Northern State Medical University. The study involved 463 adults aged 42–76 years living in the city of Arkhangelsk, representing a random sample of the adult population who had previously taken part in the “Know Your Heart” project in 2015–2017. All participants were asked to undergo an additional dental examination. The response rate was 91.6%. The dental examination included a questionnaire, assessment of dental status as recommended by the World Health Organization (2013), assessment of oral hygiene and gum inflammation, dental aesthetic index (DAI), collection of gingival fluid, autofluorescence stomatoscopy (AFS), examination by an orthodontist with periotestometry, performing a photo protocol, conducting biometrics of plaster models. When indicated, participants were asked to undergo an in-depth diagnostic to identify orthodontic pathology, namely, teleradiography and a cone-beam computed tomography.</p> <p><bold>EXPECTED RESULTS<italic>:</italic></bold> The proposed study using validated instruments and a representative sample has a major strength in providing unbiased assessment of the prevalence of oral health conditions in Arkhangelsk in the studied age group. Moreover, the material collected in this study has a potential to provide a unique opportunity to assess the associations between dental health and somatic health, lifestyle, microbiota, and metabolome since the data on the abovementioned characteristics were collected during the other projects and stored in a biobank.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p><bold>Обоснование. </bold>Архангельская область характеризуется высокой распространённостью и интенсивностью стоматологических заболеваний среди взрослого населения, однако большинство исследований были проведены либо на основе данных системы здравоохранения, либо на небольших выборках, что является угрозой для внешней валидности исследований.</p> <p><bold>Цель.</bold> Данная статья представляет собой протокол исследования, целью которого является оценка стоматологического статуса и изучение его связи с соматической патологией на репрезентативной выборке взрослого населения г. Архангельска.</p> <p><bold>Материал и методы.</bold> В 2022 г. в г. Архангельске было проведено поперечное исследование «Распространённость стоматологической патологии среди населения Арктической зоны Российской Федерации (на примере г. Архангельска) и ассоциированные характеристики микробного сообщества кишечника и респираторного тракта» (далее — стоматологическое исследование). Стоматологическое исследование являлось частью исследования «Молекулярно-генетические маркеры реакции организма на коронавирусную инфекцию и изменения микробиоты и метаболома человека в результате пандемии COVID-19» (далее — исследование эффектов COVID-19). Сбор данных для исследования проводился в период с 3 октября по 10 ноября 2022 г. на базе консультативно-диагностической поликлиники Северного государственного медицинского университета. В исследовании участвовало 463 человека в возрасте 42–76 лет, проживающих на территории г. Архангельска, представляющих собой случайную выборку взрослого населения, ранее принимавшую участие в проекте «Узнай своё сердце» в 2015–2017 гг. Всем участникам было предложено дополнительно пройти стоматологическое обследование. Отклик составил 91,6%. Стоматологическое обследование включало анкетирование, оценку стоматологического статуса по методике Всемирной организации здравоохранения (2013), оценку гигиены полости рта и воспаления десны, сбор десневой жидкости, аутофлуоресцентная стоматоскопия (АФС), дентальный эстетический индекс (DAI), осмотр врачом-ортодонтом с проведением периотестометрии, выполнением фотопротокола, проведением биометрии гипсовых моделей. Также участникам по показаниям было предложено пройти углублённую диагностику для выявления ортодонтической патологии: телерентгенографию, конусно-лучевую компьютерную томографию.</p> <p><bold>Ожидаемые результаты. </bold>Стоматологическое исследование, проведённое с помощью валидизированных инструментов с использованием репрезентативной выборки, позволит получить не только несмещённую оценку состояния стоматологического здоровья г.
