Russia, the safety monitoring of anadromous Pacific salmon (<italic>Oncorhynchus spp.</italic>), a key commercial species and an important component of the diet for the population of the Russian Far East, has traditionally been reactive (i.e., compliance checking with hygiene standards) and does not incorporate modern preventive approaches adopted in international practice. A contemporary assessment of cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) content in the organs of Pacific salmon, combined with a calculation of potential human health risks for Far Eastern residents, is lacking.</p> <p><bold><italic>AIM:</italic></bold><italic> </italic>To assess the levels of toxic elements (Cd, Pb) in Pacific salmon from the Okhotsk and Bering Seas and to determine the potential health risks associated with their consumption.</p> <p><bold><italic>METHODS:</italic></bold><italic> </italic>Between 2018 and 2021, samples of organs (muscle, liver, gonads) from Pacific salmon (pink salmon <italic>Oncorhynchus gorbuscha</italic>, chum salmon <italic>O. keta</italic>, sockeye salmon <italic>O. nerka</italic>) were collected from water bodies and streams on Sakhalin and Iturup Islands, as well as from Avacha and Kamchatka Bays. The content of Cd and Pb was determined using atomic absorption spectrometry. The reliability of the results was ensured by using international standard reference materials. The hazard quotient (HQ) was calculated to assess the risk of poisoning, utilizing data on the average annual fish consumption by the Far Eastern population and the tolerable daily intake (TDI) for cadmium and lead.</p> <p><bold><italic>RESULTS:</italic></bold><italic> </italic>A total of 213 samples were analyzed, with Cd and Pb detected in each. The content of the studied elements in the analyzed samples, except for the cadmium level in the liver of chum salmon from the Lovetskaya River in southwestern Sakhalin Island, did not exceed current Russian and international hygiene standards and is not a limiting factor for the export of fish to produce food products. The HQ calculation revealed a potential risk, primarily associated with cadmium, from the regular consumption of chum and sockeye salmon, with HQ values exceeding the threshold level in more than 50% of the samples.</p> <p><bold><italic>CONCLUSION:</italic></bold><bold><italic> </italic></bold>While there is no immediate health risk to the population from consuming Pacific salmon, regular monitoring and updating of the existing regulatory framework for fish product safety are necessary, considering regional environmental specifics and modern toxicological research.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p><bold>Обоснование. </bold>Мониторинг безопасности пищевой продукции из проходных тихоокеанских лососей (<italic>Oncorhynchus</italic> spp.) как ключевого промыслового объекта и важного компонента рациона населения Дальнего Востока – в России проводится в соответствии с требованиями ТР ТС 021/2011 Технический регламент Таможенного союза "О безопасности пищевой продукции". Актуальным направлением является проведение проспективных исследований, в том числе по оценке содержания кадмия (Cd) и свинца (Pb) в различных органах и тканях лососей.</p> <p><bold>Цель исследования. </bold>Оценка содержания токсичных элементов (Cd, Pb) в тихоокеанских лососях из Охотского и Берингова морей.</p> <p><bold>Методы. </bold>Образцы органов (мышцы, печень, гонады) тихоокеанских лососей (горбуша <italic>Oncorhynchus gorbuscha</italic>, кета <italic>O. keta</italic>, нерка <italic>O. nerka</italic>) были отобраны в 2018 и 2021 гг. из водоёмов и водотоков островов Сахалин и Итуруп, а также из Авачинского и Камчатского заливов. Содержание Cd и Pb определяли методом атомно-абсорбционной спектрометрии. Достоверность результатов обеспечивалась путем использования международных стандартных образцов.</p> <p><bold>Результаты. </bold>Всего проанализировано 213 проб, в каждой обнаружены Cd и Pb. Превышение действующих российских гигиенических нормативов зафиксировано только в печени для кадмия (17,8% образцов) и свинца (3,6% образцов). Высокие значения кадмия отмечены в печени кеты с о. Итуруп (оз. Благодатное – 1,226±0,36 мкг/г, ЛРЗ «Рейдовая» – 0,723±0,298 мкг/г), а также в образцах с юго-западного побережья о. Сахалин (0,855±0,645 мкг/г), у нерки из Авачинского (1,31±0,56 мкг/г) и Камчатского заливов (0,82±0,65 мкг/г). Превышенные значения выявлены по свинцу в печени кеты с о. Сахалин «ЛРЗ» Фирсовка» (1,176±0,361 мкг/г).</p> <p><bold>Заключение. </bold>Содержание кадмия и свинца в мышечной ткани тихоокеанских лососей (горбуши, кеты, нерки) из Охотского и Берингова морей не превышает действующих российских нормативов. Однако для реализации рыбной продукции на экспорт, требуется контроль содержания токсичных элементов, для соответствия международным стандартам.
