In this context, the development of an integral discomfort coefficient is particularly relevant; unlike existing approaches, it would allow quantitative assessment of adaptation intensity in populations from different climatogeographic regions and ranking of territories by physiological stress level.</p> <p>AIM: To develop an integral discomfort coefficient that enables quantitative assessment of the body’s adaptive responses in populations from different Russian climatogeographic regions using a medico-physiological approach, and to rank territories by physiological stress level.</p> <p>METHODS: The study examined 256 healthy male volunteers aged 17–21 years from three locations: the Arctic zone (Murmansk), the Far North (Magadan), and the central belt (Moscow and Ulyanovsk). We analyzed functional system stress, thyroid function, respiratory status, basal metabolic rate, and carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Using mathematical modeling, we calculated the discomfort coefficient for each population.</p> <p>RESULTS: Our comprehensive studies produced a combined index that serves as an integral discomfort coefficient (DC). It enables quantitative assessment of the degree of deviation in functional parameters and identification of region-specific patterns. Analysis revealed a clear gradient in functional status: the Northeast, with an index of 100 arbitrary units, shows pronounced functional stress; the Northwest, with 73.05 units, shows signs of moderate maladaptation (elevated stress with a tendency to high levels); and the central belt, with a zero index, corresponds to an optimal state.</p> <p>CONCLUSION: The developed index proved to be an informative marker for comparing functional stress across territories, providing a scientific basis for zoning northern areas and the Arctic based on biomedical mapping.</p>
<trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p>Обоснование. </p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>young males</kwd><kwd>Arctic</kwd><kwd>Far North</kwd><kwd>central belt of Russia</kwd><kwd>adaptation</kwd><kwd>discomfort coefficient</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>юноши</kwd><kwd>Арктика</kwd><kwd>Крайний Север</kwd><kwd>средняя полоса Российской Федерации</kwd><kwd>адаптация</kwd><kwd>коэффициент дискомфортности</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="zh"><kwd>男青年</kwd><kwd>北极</kwd><kwd>极北</kwd><kwd>俄罗斯联邦中部地区</kwd><kwd>适应</kwd><kwd>不适系数</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><award-group><funding-source><institution-wrap><institution xml:lang="ru">Правительство Российской Федерации</institution></institution-wrap><institution-wrap><institution xml:lang="en">Government of the Russian Federation</institution></institution-wrap><institution-wrap><institution xml:lang="zh">俄罗斯联邦政府</institution></institution-wrap></funding-source><award-id>1025031800012-3-3.1.8</award-id></award-group><funding-statement xml:lang="en">This study was supported by budgetary funding from the Arctic Research Center, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as part of the project “Comprehensive molecular genetic and morphofunctional determinants of adaptive rearrangements in the North” (Registration No. 1025031800012-3-3.1.8).</funding-statement><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Работа выполнена за счёт бюджетного финансирования НИЦ «Арктика» ДВО РАН в рамках темы «Комплексные молекулярно-генетические и морфофункциональные детерминанты адаптационных перестроек в условиях Севера» (рег. номер 1025031800012-3-3.1.8).</funding-statement><funding-statement xml:lang="zh">This study was supported by budgetary funding from the Arctic Research Center, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as part of the project “Comprehensive molecular genetic and morphofunctional determinants of adaptive rearrangements in the North” (Registration No. 1025031800012-3-3.1.8).</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><mixed-citation>Schulte PA, Chun H.
