Two groups were formed: students who arrived from India for studies and had been living in the North for more than 1 year (n = 40), and Russian students permanently residing in the North (n = 40). EEG was recorded in a sitting position with eyes closed; its characteristics were analyzed based on the dynamics of spectral power values (μV²) in each EEG frequency band.</p> <p>RESULTS: In the group of Indian students compared to Russian students, higher theta rhythm power values were observed across all EEG leads, particularly in the frontal and central brain regions (p &lt; 0.05), which may be associated with increased cognitive load and stress. An EEG type with organized alpha activity predominated in both groups of examined students; however, in the Indian group, significantly higher values were also found in the frontal, central and temporal brain regions (p &lt; 0.05), which may represent a compensatory mechanism for suppressing excessive sensory or cognitive processing and stabilizing the internal state under chronic stressor conditions. Significantly higher beta1 EEG-activity power values in Indian students were noted in the left frontal and central brain regions (p &lt; 0.05), likely related to functions of cognitive control, vigilance, and somatomotor preparation.</p> <p>CONCLUSION: Global increases in theta, alpha, and beta1 EEG-activity power in the frontal brain regions may indicate hyperactive functioning of the frontal-thalamic system and the brain's default mode network. The obtained data demonstrate that the brains of representatives from different cultures may operate in distinct "baseline modes," which is likely a result of long-term adaptation to diverse environments, cultural practices, languages, and educational systems.</p>
<trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p>Обоснование.
